Today’s blog update is about TOEFL iBT being Temporarily Suspended for Australian Visa Applications until further notice.
Did you know that TOEFL iBT, is one of the authorized English language tests for Australian visa applications? Recently, it was found that this test will not be available for visa purposes from 26 July 2023 until further notice. This suspension is because of the significant revisions being announced to the test by ETS, the association that administers TOEFL iBT, which are presently under evaluation by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Suggestions for Existing TOEFL iBT Test Takers
Please keep in mind that, for those who have previously undergone the TOEFL iBT test, there’s no need to be concerned. The interruption only involves those applicants who intends to take the test after 26 July 2023. TOEFL iBT scores stays valid for Australian visa applications on condition that they were attained before the cut-off date.
Modifications in the New & Updated TOEFL iBT Tests
The good news is that the modified TOEFL iBT, launching globally on 26 July, intends to provide a better test registration process, streamlined directions for test-takers, a simplified Reading section, and a new Writing section named ‘Writing for an Academic Discussion.’ The duration for the test will be reduced to 2 hours from 3 hours.
Alternative English Tests for Australian Visas
Regardless of the present suspension on TOEFL iBT, other English language test options accessible to visa applicants include the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test of English (PTE), Cambridge English (CAE), and for healthcare professionals Occupational English Test (OET) is also available.
