Canada’s Spousal Sponsorship Immigration Sees a Rise

According to the recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), it was revealed that a there was a major upsurge in spousal sponsorship immigration in May 2023, with arise of approximately 44.3%. It was also observed that this growth came after a three-month decline, indicating a guaranteed bounce back for the spousal sponsorship immigration program.




Did you know, The Canadian spousal sponsorship program started the year 2023 very strong with above 10,000 spouses and common-law partners coming to Canada. On the other hand, the numbers declined to just under 5,000 in April 2023. This descending trend was on hold in in May with 7,200 new permanent residents settling in Canada under the program, an increase of 2,210 compared to the prior month.



Canada’s most famous province, Ontario saw the highest number of arrivals under the Spousal Immigration Program, with 13,950 spouses making it their home in the first 5 months of the year 2023. Other provinces also saw a noteworthy number of new permanent residents under the Canadian spousal sponsorship program.


Furthermore, the IRCC’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2023-2025 is aiming at 78,000 newcomers under spousal sponsorships in 2023. With the resurgence in May 2023, Canada is on track to surpass this target, potentially welcoming over 90,000 spouses and common-law partners through this spousal immigration program.

Please keep in mind that the processing times for spousal sponsorship immigration applications have also gotten better, now down to 14 months from 20 months as compared to 2023. This is an important development, making the process well-organized for those seeking to immigrate to Canada under the Canadian spousal sponsorship program.
