International students graduating from a Canadian institute with a post-secondary qualification may be able to extend their stay in Canada and transition to Canadian permanent residency. There are many Federal and Provincial immigration programs that value applicants with qualifications from an institute in Canada along with Canadian work experience.
Students often become eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after finishing their education in Canada, allowing them to acquire Canadian work experience for up to three years.
Let’s take a look at the eligibility requirements for a PGWP for international students;
For starters, applicants must have finished their education in a vocational, academic, or professional training program of at least eight months from a Designated Learning Institute (DLI).
Secondly, students must have a certificate, degree, or diploma as proof of their qualification in a specific study program.
Moreover, students must have had a full-time student status in Canada throughout the duration of their study program. This should be included in their post-graduation work permit application.
Students must have an official letter and a transcript from their institute stating that the applicant has fulfilled the completion criteria of a program of study.
Don’t forget a PGWP holder is free to apply to different provincial and federal permanent resident programs, including the Provincial Nominee Programs and Express Entry.
