New data from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) suggests that Canada now has 807,750 international students.
Statistics show that 551,405 international students from 184 countries came to Canada in 2022.
As a result, reports of 31 December 2022 confirmed that 807,750 international students hold valid study permits, breaking all records.
It is safe to say that there has been a significant boost in the number of study permits issued over the years.
In 2019, 400,600 study permits were issued. This number increased to 444,260 in 2021. However, the issuance of new study permits took a hit in 2020 because of the pandemic. Regardless, it seems that 107145 more study permits were issued in 2022 than in 2021.
Needless to say, this led to a massive increase in the number of international students in Canada. In 2019, 637,860 students from other countries came to Canada, but this figure dropped in 2020 because of COVID-19.
Moreover, 617,315 international students were reported to be in Canada in 2021 after the authorities eased the pandemic’s restrictions. There were 170,000 more overseas students in Canada in 2022 compared to 2019.
