Medium-Term Stream: You can continue to work in Australia for up to four years, but Hong Kong passport holders may be allowed to stay for five.
Labour Agreement Stream: How long you can stay in Australia depends on the terms of the labour agreement. You can continue to work in Australia for up to four years, and individuals with Hong Kong passports can remain in the country for five years.
How Can You Apply For Permanent Residency Under Each Stream Of The TSS Visa Subclass 482?
Short-Term & Medium-Term Streams: It may be possible for your employer to sponsor you for permanent residency via the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme subclass 187 or the Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186.
Labour Agreement Stream: Your employer can only sponsor you for permanent residency via the Employer Nomination Scheme subclass 186.
What Are The Requirements For Each Stream Of The TSS?
Short-Term Stream: You must have a nomination to work in an occupation mentioned on the eligible short-term skilled occupations list.
Medium-Term Stream: You should have a nomination to work in an occupation mentioned, either on the Regional Occupation List (ROL) or the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Labour Agreement Stream: You need to have a nomination to work in a specified profession according to the terms of a Labour Agreement.
Applicants should also have a relevant work experience of at least two years in their nominated occupation or a related field, along with a relevant skills assessment if needed.
Plus, applicants are only supposed to work for their sponsor or associated entity unless they have an exemption under the Short-Term or Medium-Term stream.
Moreover, applicants have to fulfill the minimum standards of English language proficiency unless they have an exemption.
Interestingly, you don’t necessarily have to return to your home country after your TSS visa expires. You have the option to go for subclass 491, which gives you a pathway to permanent residency, and your employer can sponsor you for permanent residence when you are a TSS visa holder.
