Our Blog update for today shares the news of Australia issuing the highest number of Skilled Independent visas.
The largest number of Skilled Independent visas were issued by the Labor Government while reducing the criteria for applicants.
The Government has issued 12,200 invitations for Skilled Independent Visas and a further 466 for the Regional Family Sponsored Skilled visa on 22 August 2022. These invitations correlate to Expressions of Interest (EOIs) submitted on or before 8 August 2022.
This invitation course for Skilled Independent visas was the largest in years and reflected a shift in program management strategy. The government seeks to issue visas as soon as possible in 2022 rather than distribute these throughout the 2022-23 program year.
These invitations are for primary visa applicants. Including secondary applicants such as dependent family members would result in the total number of Skilled Independent visas for this category at more than 16,000.
There may likely be no more invitation courses in 2022-23. If there are, these will be minor as the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) will be depending on state/territory governments to nominate from EOIs lodged after 8 August 2022.
