Canada’s online applications for the following programs will start on 23 September.
- Sponsorship and adoption programs
- Quebec Skilled Worker programs
- Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)
However, other permanent residence programs will be phased in afterward.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser stated that “Immigration is about people.” He said it’s about joining new employment, reuniting a family, and building a new life in a beautiful country they call home. He commented that while they strive to reinforce their immigration system through technology updates, their main focus must be the people who are also their clients.
He believes that Canada’s new citizens and newcomers will receive a remarkable experience by adding resources where required and upgrading the technology for faster processing and easy application submissions.
In January, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) pledged to deliver foreign citizens the option to apply for permanent residency via its online portal. Other formats will still be open for individuals requiring special accommodations.
The permanent residence portal of Ottawa was open to certain applicants as early as the end of March 2021.
The IRCC has noted on its website that this online option offers clients more feasibility to apply from their devices and permits them to receive immediate confirmation of their successful application submission.
By the end of October, the online portal will be open to most permanent residence programs.
Quebec’s self-employed individuals, investors, and entrepreneurs chosen by that francophone central Canadian province will be permitted to use the portal from 7 October.
From 14 October, the online portal will be open for individuals applying under the Start-Up Visa program, Agri-food Pilot, and temporary residents applying for permanent residence.
On 21 October, applicants under the following programs can apply to gain portal access.
- Home Support Worker
- Home Child Care Provider Pilots
- Humanitarian and compassionate grounds
- Self-employed people under the federal program
On 28 October, The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) will be the final program to be included in the online portal.
