Is your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) expiring on 31 December 2024? Then, you must be worried thinking how it would affect your immigration status in the UK.
The Home Office has plans to change the system of proving a migrant’s status in the UK. They will switch to a fully digital system starting 1 January 2025.
What does this mean?
Well, Once this change comes into effect, physical BRP cards won’t be issued anymore.
This is why all BRP cards, including Indefinite Leave To Remain, that are issued with a validity of beyond 31 December 2024 are printed with an expiry date of 31 December 2024.
Don’t worry; you don’t have to take any action now.
The Home Office will release guidance on the new online system and how to prove your immigration status online.
Remember that unless your permission to stay in the UK expires on 31 December 2024, it is only your card that’s expiring and not your immigration permission.
We’ll bring you the latest updates on the BRP as soon as more information comes to light.
