Can A Visitor Visa Holder Work in The UK?
Our blog update for today will look at whether a UK Visitor Visa holder could work in the country.
In general, you are not permitted to work whilst in the UK as a visitor. It is deemed a violation of the UK Immigration Rules, and if found that you have worked in the UK as a visitor, it can impact the possibility of applying for future UK visas.
Working in the United Kingdom implies the following:
- Gaining employment in the UK
- Establishing or operating a business as a self-employed individual
- Completion of a work placement or internship
- Supplying goods or services to the public
The restriction on working applies to both paid and unpaid work.
The UK immigration rules do, however, allow visitors to partake in certain restricted business activities. These include the following:
- Attending meetings, conferences, seminars, and interviews
- Negotiating and signing contracts
- Conducting site visits and inspections
Typically, the UK visitor visa rules are pretty vague and could be challenging for a traveller to understand whether they can carry out the business activities they expect.
When regarding this, it does not only matter which tasks they wish to carry out but also how they wish to implement them. For instance, training in a boardroom setting may be permitted; however, training on the job might not be.
Regarding the visitors, the UK Immigration Rules apply no matter the duration of the visit, even if it lasts only one day.
