On October 5, the U.S. Department of State began receiving online applications for the 2024 Diversity Visa lottery. Applicants are given the time period until November 8, noon EDT to submit their applications.
The State Department is set to offer 55,000 green cards to foreign citizens.
The Diversity Visa program allows the opportunity to foreign citizens from countries that generally don’t send many immigrants to the U.S. to receive a green card.
Let’s look at the countries that aren’t eligible to apply for 2024. The countries are the following:
- Bangladesh
- Brazil
- Canada
- China (including Hong Kong SAR)
- Colombia
- Dominican Republic
- El Salvador
- Haiti
- Honduras
- India
- Jamaica
- Mexico
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- Republic of Korea (South Korea),
- United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories
- Venezuela
- Vietnam
However, Taiwan and Natives of Macau SAR are eligible.
The State Department advises the applicants to submit their applications early within the registration period. This is so you can avoid any website delays due to high demand. Also, please note that only one submission is permitted per person.
