The median hourly wage for the temporary foreign worker program was recently updated by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). It will become effective on 31 May 2023.
It should be noted that international workers are required to submit an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) with their work permit application to seek employment in Canada. You can obtain an LMIA from your Canadian employer.
Employers are advised to apply to ESDC for an LMIA under the low-wage or high-wage stream. The procedure is different for each stream based on the region and pay.
Interestingly, whether the job comes with a higher or lower pay compared to the median hourly wage is determined by the territorial or provincial median hourly pay.
Don’t forget the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) was moved to the LMIA Online Portal on 3 April 2023 to allow people to submit LMIAs effectively.
