To obtain an Australian Student Visa in 2024, students must apply for the Subclass 500 visa, which is required for full-time higher studies in Australia. The visa is valid for 5 years, and students are allowed to work up to 48 hours per fortnight during the semester and unlimited hours during holidays.
As of October 2023, students need to show evidence of funds amounting to a minimum of AUD 24,505 per year to cover the cost of living in Australia.
The application process includes completing the following:
- 157A student visa application form
- Paying the application fee
- Providing a passport
- Financial proof
- Offer letter or COE
- Health insurance
- English language test
- Clearance of a criminal record and other documents.
The processing time for the visa is 59 days, so it’s recommended to apply at least 6 weeks before the start of the academic study. The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement is set to impact visa applications, and a Genuine Student Test (GST) might be implemented to check the authenticity of students.
These changes aim to reduce document fraud and ensure that only genuine students are granted visas.
