Applying for an Australian study visa can seem complicated, but with proper research and preparation, the process can be just as smooth. The key is choosing the proper study visa.

 

Student visa (subclass 500)

Most foreign students apply for the subclass 500 visa. This visa permits one to study in Australia for five years in a CRICOS-registered course and institution. Essentially, the Student visa – subclass 500 is a work and study visa, which means you can work for around 40 hours within the period of 2 weeks while studying, along with unlimited hours during semester breaks.

While the visa is valid, you can also be accompanied by family members and travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want. In case you are under the age of 18, you must have sufficient arrangements for welfare.

What Is The Cost Of The Australian Student Visa?

Fees apply to all Australian student visas. The minimum charges for this visa are $630.

Training Visa (subclass 407)

The Training visa – subclass 407 permits you to undertake professional training in a workplace to enhance your skills for your job or the field of your degree or for a professional development training program. Training Visa is a temporary visa that is valid for two years.

To obtain the Training visa – subclass 407, you should be sponsored by an accredited organisation. The sponsoring organisation must have invited you to partake in an occupational training program unless your sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency. Be sure to check the exact requirements online.

What Is The Cost Of The Australian Training Visa?

For the primary applicant, the cost for applying for the Training visa – subclass 407 ranges from $315. Like other visas, there is also a charge for every family member who accompanies you.




Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485)

The subclass 485 visa, known as the Temporary Graduate visa, permits qualified foreign students who have completed an Australian tertiary education to remain in Australia to acquire work experience.

This visa is available in two primary visa categories, which are the Graduate Work stream and the Post-Study Work stream. You can remain in Australia for two to four years with the Post-Study Work stream and 18 months under the Graduate Work stream. Individuals with Hong Kong passports may stay for five years in both categories. If you have graduated from an institution in a regional area, you might be qualified to get a second Post-Study Work visa that will last for another one to two years.

Before applying, you should have had a Student visa in the past 12 months. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Graduates affected by travel restrictions of the pandemic can apply for this visa from abroad.

What Is The Cost Of The Australian Temporary Graduate Visa?

Applying for this visa is quite expensive. You will have to pay $1,680 each for the Graduate Work stream and the Post-Study Work stream. The charges for a second Post-Study Work visa start from $660.
