The Albanese government made a significant announcement in Melbourne during the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, aiming to promote stronger ties and boost tourism between its neighbours. This statement declares to extend the 10-year frequent traveller visa scheme, which now encompasses eligible ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste.

Formerly, only Chinese tourists were eligible for the 10-year frequent traveller visa scheme, which enables visitors to stay in Australia for up to three months on each visit. This visa scheme now extends to the following eligible nationals of listed ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste:

  • Laos
  • Brunei
  • Cambodia
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
