Millions of individuals worldwide are waiting for the results of the 2024 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program or green card lottery, set to be released on 6 May 2023.
Applicants in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery, can confirm if they were selected randomly, as stated by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs.
The registration period for the Green Card Lottery 2024 was from 5 October 2022 till 8 November 2022, and participants will be able to check if they won from noon on 6 May.
Entrants can confirm their selection through a blue button on the website labelled ‘Check Status.’ They can use their unique confirmation information from the entry registration of DV-2023.
According to the instructions provided by officials, a confirmation page with more instructions, such as details about fees related to US immigration, will automatically open if your entry is picked.
What’s interesting to note here is that the US State Department runs the green card lottery program or the Diversity Visa program. Its goal is to grant 55,000 green cards to foreign nationals belonging to countries that have historically low rates of US immigration.
It is safe to say that the DV Lottery program is one of the most popular methods of migration to the United States legally.
Interestingly, countries with over 50,000 citizens migrating to the US in the last five years cannot participate in the program. These include Brazil, Canada, Bangladesh, Haiti, Honduras, Dominican Republic, China, Colombia, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Venezuela, Pakistan, Nigeria, Mexico, Philippines, Vietnam, El Salvador, India, and Jamaica for DV 2024.
Individuals from different parts of the world, including the ones living in the US with valid non-immigrant visas, were qualified to try their luck in DV 2024 lottery.
According to the US State Department, nearly 7 million people from around the world took part in the DV 2024 lottery last year when registration was open.
Those who win will be asked to submit applications for US permanent residency, after which they have to go through interviews and background checks before finally migrating to the United States as permanent residents.
Most importantly, people who are selected must obtain a permanent resident visa or green by 30 September 2024 to become eligible for US immigration. The same goes for their qualifying family members.
