We all know that staying on top of the Immigration Health Surchage or IHS, is crucial for UK immigration. The rise of this fee has been a concern for all UK applicants. Now, it seems the fee is about to be implemented soon. So, let’s get straight into it.
Today, we’ll walk you through:
- The announcement of the IHS increase
- The annual new IHS fees surge for adult applicants
- Impact of the fee hike on businesses
What Is The Current Situation?
In July 2023, a major increase in the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) was announced by the government, which is anticipated to be implemented on January 16, 2024.
IHS Fee Increase for Adults
The annual Immigration Health Surcharge fees for adult applicants will see an increment of 66%, which is GBP 1,035 per person, instead of the current GBP 624. The annual fee will increase to GBP 776 per person for student applicants and their dependents, and for children as well. This will be a 65% surge from the current GBP 470.
Impact of the IHS Fee Hike
Businesses that utilize or plan to use the UK immigration system for hiring foreign nationals will need to recheck their budget and application strategies according to the fee changes.
Businesses that are trying to bring forward any employee transfers or extensions will benefit from the current rates.
How Did the Rise in IHS Happen?
Following the persistent strikes from public sector workers, the government came to the conclusion in mid-2023 to increase the average wage by 6.5% for the years 2023/24.
This decision was taken in line with various independent pay review bodies’ recommendations.
This increase in IHS is part of a bigger picture, which includes an increase in the visa fee and other proposals with the intention of covering the pay rise.
Both chambers of the UK Parliament have approved this IHS increase, which is anticipated to be effective on January 16, 2024.
