International students, great news comes this way! In a major development, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has made some major expansions to the eligibility criteria for its International Student stream. Let’s find out more about it in this blog.
With the goal of accommodating more foreign students with one-year college graduate certificates, new changes to the stream have been effective since January 1, 2024.

What Are The Key Changes?
Expansion on Eligibility
Formerly, the only candidates allowed to apply were those with a one-year certificate from a program where admission required a degree. However, now the eligibility is extended to any one-year college program that offers an Ontario College Graduate Certificate.

Changes to Program Requirements
As a result of these modifications, most of Ontario’s one-year graduate certificate programs are eligible. This is a significant change from the earlier restrictions.
Scoring and Accredited Institutions Updated
Revisions have also been made to the scoring system of the Expression of Interest (EOI) for educational degrees as well as additional Canadian credentials.
