A new efficient work authorization process for refugees in the country has been declared by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This process enables the refugees to acquire their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) within 30 days after entering the country. It provides excellent relief to the refugees by notably minimizing the waiting period for work authorization (down from several months).
USCIS will facilitate the provision by digitally producing Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) for refugees once they enter the U.S. After getting approved, the EAD will typically take one to two weeks to deliver to the refugees by mail. Furthermore, USCIS aims to electronically furnish the Social Security Administration with the required information to allocate Social Security numbers and dispatch Social Security cards to refugees so they can start working.

This process will grant EADs and Social Security Cards to all eligible refugees who entered the U.S. on or after December 10, 2023.
The U.S. now grants the legal right to work upon arrival. Formerly, the EAD application process was paper-based and time-consuming which is now replaced by a completely automated process for Form I-765 and quicker delivery of EADs after approval.
