Refugees To Receive Work Permits In Just 30 Days Under New USCIS Process

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) declared a new efficient process for work authorization of U.S. refugees. Refugees can acquire their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) within 30 days after entering the country.

This new system enables the USCIS to digitally produce Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) for refugees once they enter the U.S. This new process furnishes the EADs and Social Security cards to all eligible refugees arriving in the country after December 10, 2023.

Biden Addresses Immigration Challenges in State of the Union

In the 2024 State of the Union address, President Biden called Republican lawmakers to stop obstructing immigration reform and asked the government to make meaningful progress on the border. He said that they could either fight about fixing the border or fix it.

Moreover, he suggested new initiatives to safeguard the border, such as recruiting 1,500 more border security agents, 100 additional judges, and 4,300 asylum officers to cope with the rising migrant crossings.

Indians Are Now the Third-Largest Group of Undocumented Immigrants in the U.S.

According to recent estimates by the Pew Research Center, the third-largest group of undocumented migrants in the U.S. is Indians. The only non-Latin American nation in the top five is India.

Since 2011, the 70% hike in the undocumented population of Indians in the U.S. has marked the most expeditious growth among all nationalities. The figures by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) highlight the years 2020 to 2023, marking the period during which the number of undocumented Indian immigrants hiked the most.

H-1B Lottery Registrations Expected to Drop By 50%

From March 6 to March 22, 2024, the FY 2025 H-1B lottery is open for registration, including a new “beneficiary-centric” process focused on minimizing fraud.

According to an estimate by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), approximately 350,000 distinct individuals would register this year, which is less than half of the registrations compared to last year. The USCIS got 758,994 total registrations with 408,891 duplicate entries.
